God Always Speaks - Are We Listening?

Young lady looking up listening

Prayer is talking to God, right? That is only half the picture. Prayer is fellowship with God. He is always talking. I am interacting with Him. The initial connection with Him left me in shock. No one had ever told me we could converse anytime, anywhere.

We are called to be seated in Christ in Heavenly Places. Jesus has sent a clarion call to all God-lovers to come higher. Whoever does not have their spiritual senses opened, desire and ask. Develop your hearing skills with Holy Spirit. Developing and intimate relationship with Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit is our inheritance.

I will give you three lists and several keys I discovered in my quest to grow in intimacy with our Heavenly Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.

The primary way, but not the only way, God speaks to me is through the revelation of the Word. As I read, scriptures become alive. Words jump off the page as Holy Spirit breathes on the Word. I ask Holy Spirit to be my teacher. He makes me aware of His Presence in many ways.

How do you hear from Him? There is more than one way. Any way He speaks to us is significant. No particular way is more important, although some are easier to develop.

God seeks a relationship with His God-lovers. This love is beyond my understanding. Jesus paid the price at the cross and His resurrection to seal all the blessings and promises for us.

List One

Below are some key Scriptures that started my quest. Please add yours.

2 Corinthians 13.14: Holy Spirit is our connector.

1 Samuel: Samuel heard an audible voice.

Judges 4: Deborah easily heard God; He entrusted her with His people whom she loved. The people loved and honored Deborah.

Psalm 119.105: the light of the Word directs us.

Hebrews 13.5: He will never-ever leave us.

Hebrews 12.14: the Living Word reads us.

Matthew 28.20: He is always with us, even to the end of the ages.

Noah built an ark for 120 years in instant obedience to God. Abram left his homeland and religion to do what God said. Samuel heard God and his words were always effective. Deborah listened and went into immediate action. We could go through the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and discover different ways people interacted with God.

Think of Jesus. Our precious Father gave us His Spirit through His wonderful Son and sealed our spirit with Himself. When it is time to “go home,” Holy Spirit will be with us. We began in Father’s heart and have everything we need to fulfill His plans for us (Ephesians 1). Then, Jesus, the Victorious One, fully equipped us through the finished work of the cross and the empty tomb.

We may not always feel His presence, but He is there. Sometimes we are more aware than other times. In a gathering, many will praise, and there might be physical manifestations. There might be a cloud in the room, gold dust may fall, and people healed with no one touching them. Everyone who is receptive will know God is in the place.

I was in a gathering when another person, with his five spiritual senses active, touched me. He said, “You will feel God’s presence anytime, anywhere.” I lifted my hands and felt God’s tangible presence. I woke the next day, lifted my hands, and felt Him again. Each day, I was afraid that His presence would leave. It didn’t. I can merely reverse my hands in a receiving position, high or low, and feel His presence. Because I wanted everyone to feel His presence and tried to explain, but others didn’t understand.

The more I desired, the more I received. My spiritual senses began to open more. I have heard his audible voice. His still small impressions speak to my mind.

List Two

Daily, I practice the presence of Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit.

  • I have a set time to sit quietly in His presence.
  • I praise Him, thank Him, and tell Him how wonderful He is to me.
  • I ask what He wants to say to me.
  • The quiet, spontaneous thoughts to my mind, I write in a journal.
  • Reading the Word, I expect something from God in the spiritual realm.
  • Going through my day, I talk with Him and expect an answer and direction in my day.
  • Do you have a dream journal, and are you willing to write things in the middle of the night?
  • People can say something that pierces your heart in a good way.
  • When something unpleasant happens, I begin to rejoice, and my joy-tank fills up. I purpose in my heart to stay seated in Heavenly Places in Christ above life-circumstances.
  • I declare the promises in the Word as truth over my life.

List Three

God the Holy One:

  1. Is sovereign over the universe.
  2. He desires to be the center of our lives.
  3. Even the smallest decisions, He wants to have a say.
  4. He is there all the time.
  5. God desires a relationship even more than you and I do.
  6. He is sovereign over divine intimacy.
  7. We can grow in our five spiritual senses to know Him better.
  8. Believe what we have.
  9. Receive and “lean in” to hear.
  10. Ask that He open the eyes of your heart.
  11. Turn your heart and thoughts toward Him. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours. He will lead, He will counsel even in the night.
  12. We can be Spirit-led.
  13. Agree with the Truth.
  14. Proclaim the Truth over yourself, your family, your circumstances, knowing He cares.
  15. It is good to agree with eternal truth in temporary circumstances.
  16. We fight the good fight of faith, knowing He is there and cares.
  17. We fight from victory, not for victory.
  18. Decree and declare the Truth. His Word goes forth. The enemy flees, and we have the victory in Jesus.
  19. Focus on God and the light of His presence will radiate from us. His presence in us will either draw or repel people around us.
  20. Praise Him, thank Him, and you will not lose a battle in your mind and emotions.
  21. Agree with the sealed promises and lean into the relationship He desires.

The three lists I have given for you to expand. I have only touched the surface and given you food for thought. The lists contain keys for victorious living. Continue to grow. This is my heart’s desire. Each year-end I do not want to end a year and discover I have not grown spiritually.

Jesus gave us the authority to do what He showed us. It is Him in us. We are merely His vessels. He works in and through us to change the world around us and more.

God-lovers, Papa is waiting patiently for you to want more intimacy with Him. He loves you.
